Zentek Ltd. has filed a provisional patent for ZEN-EMI-01, a water-based electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding coating made from purified graphite from its Albany deposit. Unlike traditional metal-based shields that reflect EM energy, this coating absorbs it as heat, reducing interference in dense electronic systems. Laboratory tests showed significant absorption of radar and satellite communication frequencies. Zentek plans further development, including independent testing, optimization, and scale-up, targeting sectors like telecommunications, aerospace, and defense. The patent filing starts a 12-month window for international applications, with no guarantee of commercial success yet.
