Security researchers found and patched a serious vulnerability in Zcash nodes that could have allowed attackers to steal over 25,000 ZEC, worth about $6.5 million, from the legacy Sprout shielded pool. The flaw, present since July 2020, was responsibly disclosed and fixed before any theft occurred, protecting user funds. Major mining pools quickly applied the patch, and alternative network safeguards would have prevented exploitation. The Sprout pool still holds around 25,424 ZEC from users who haven't migrated to newer pools. The researcher who reported the bug received a 200 ZEC bounty, and despite the scare, Zcash's price rose over 14% in 24 hours, showing strong market confidence.
