Western Midstream Partners and its Joint Industry Project collaborators, including Chevron and ExxonMobil, have started up a second produced-water treatment pilot facility near Red Bluff Reservoir, Texas. The plant can treat 2,000 barrels of produced water daily to yield about 1,000 barrels of reclaimed freshwater, ten times more than their first pilot. This initiative aims to enhance water security in West Texas by transforming produced water into usable freshwater for industrial and irrigation purposes. The project will continue optimizing treatment processes and guide future commercial-scale desalination efforts in the Permian Basin.
