Over the past decade, Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) returned 563%, outperforming Vanguard Growth ETF (VUG) which returned 427%. QQQ’s concentrated portfolio of large Nasdaq-listed tech companies like Apple and Microsoft captures more growth upside, while VUG’s broader index dilutes returns with many mid-tier stocks. Although QQQ has higher fees, its focused index construction has driven superior performance. Investors should consider QQQ or its lower-cost variant QQQM for growth exposure, especially in tax-advantaged accounts, but switching from VUG may not be worthwhile if there are significant unrealized gains.
