Volvo Group North America has reached a settlement with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) over alleged issues with emission control descriptions on 2010-2016 engines in trucks sold in California. Volvo will pay $12.5 million in penalties, $71 million to CARB's Air Pollution Control Fund, spend $108 million on emission-reduction projects, and reimburse $5 million in CARB costs. The settlement will negatively impact Volvo's Q2 2026 operating income by $196.5 million and cash flow by $89 million, with further cash effects over five years. Volvo disclosed the issues proactively and will provide software updates and warranty extensions for affected engines, maintaining compliance and safety standards.
