Viatris announced positive Phase 3 trial results for VR-205, a targeted-release budesonide drug treating primary IgA nephropathy (IgAN) in Japanese adults at risk of kidney failure. The trial showed a significant 33.75% reduction in urine protein levels and improvements in kidney function markers over nine months, with good safety and no patients progressing to severe kidney disease. These results align with global studies and support Viatris' plan to submit a New Drug Application in Japan by the end of 2026. VR-205 could become the first IgAN-specific oral therapy in Japan, addressing a major unmet medical need in a country with the highest IgAN incidence worldwide.
