A global randomized trial showed that using the EKOS Endovascular System combined with anticoagulation significantly reduces clinical event rates in patients with intermediate-risk pulmonary embolism (PE) compared to anticoagulation alone. The HI-PEITHO trial demonstrated a 61% reduction in the composite primary endpoint, including PE-related mortality and cardiorespiratory complications, without increasing major bleeding risks. These findings, presented at ACC.26 and published in The New England Journal of Medicine, suggest EKOS plus anticoagulation could become a new first-line treatment for acute PE. Patients will continue to be followed for one year to assess long-term outcomes.
