Researchers from Stanford and Singapore Management University discovered that 821 traders manipulated Polymarket’s five-minute Bitcoin contracts by pushing Binance’s spot price just before settlement, extracting $8.2 million. This manipulation occurred in the final 10 seconds of the contract, exploiting the close link between Binance’s mid-price and the Chainlink oracle used for settlement. Longer 15-minute contracts showed much less manipulation, suggesting that extending settlement times could reduce abuse. The findings raise concerns about the integrity of crypto prediction markets as Polymarket prepares a token launch later in 2026.
