A third-party module connected to the Gnosis Safe ecosystem was exploited, draining about $3.2 million from 86 Safes across Ethereum and Base networks in two hours. The vulnerable contract, named "SquidRouterModule," caused confusion but was clarified by Squid as not built or operated by them. Attackers bypassed signature verification by exploiting a flaw in the module, allowing unauthorized token spending. The stolen assets were converted into a worthless token and then consolidated into 3.07 million DAI, currently held in a known wallet. Squid emphasized their core infrastructure was unaffected and criticized early reports linking the exploit directly to their protocol.
