S&P Dow Jones Indices and MSCI have started a consultation with the investment community to review and possibly update the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS). The review focuses on reflecting current market realities, including AI business models, semiconductor sub-industry restructuring, and updates to software and investment company classifications. The consultation runs from July 17 to October 30, 2026, with any changes to be announced by November 2026. This process ensures the GICS remains a relevant and accurate framework for industry classification in financial markets.
