The U.S. Department of Energy has completed its National Environmental Policy Act review of the Smackover Lithium South West Arkansas Project, issuing a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). This approval means the project can proceed without additional federal environmental conditions, supporting a $225 million DOE grant awarded in 2025. The project partners, Standard Lithium and Equinor, plan to take a Final Investment Decision and start construction in 2026, aiming for commercial lithium production by 2029. This milestone advances U.S. efforts to develop a domestic critical minerals supply chain with responsible environmental practices.
