The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed a rule change to let public companies replace quarterly earnings reports (Form 10-Q) with semiannual reports (Form 10-S), while still requiring a full annual report. This move aligns with former President Donald Trump's push to reduce quarterly reporting, which he argues fosters short-term thinking and distracts management from long-term strategy. The proposal aims to give companies and investors more flexibility in reporting frequency but faces criticism over potential transparency loss for retail investors. The SEC will open a 60-day public comment period before any final decision is made by majority vote.
