Sana Biotechnology announced that The New England Journal of Medicine published a letter detailing 14-month positive follow-up data from a study on their hypoimmune (HIP)-modified islet cell therapy for type 1 diabetes. The therapy showed safety, immune system evasion, and sustained insulin production without immunosuppressive drugs. This supports Sana's development of SC451, a stem cell-derived, one-time treatment aiming for long-term normal blood glucose without insulin or immunosuppression. Sana plans to file for clinical trials of SC451 later this year, potentially offering a functional cure for type 1 diabetes.
