Electric vehicle maker Rivian is laying off hundreds of workers, mainly in its service and customer division, as part of a restructuring effort to scale its business efficiently. The layoffs represent less than 2% of its workforce of about 15,200 employees. This move follows previous rounds of job cuts, including a 4.5% reduction in October due to softer demand after EV tax credits expired. Rivian recently launched its R2 SUV, priced around $58,000, and plans to introduce more affordable versions to boost sales and move toward profitability. However, the company has lowered its 2027 profit expectations as it increases spending on research and development, especially for autonomous driving technology.
