The 30 MW Barrow Green Hydrogen project in Barrow-in-Furness, UK, has reached its final investment decision (FID). Plug Power will supply six 5 MW GenEco™ PEM electrolyzers to produce around 100 GWh of green hydrogen annually for Kimberly-Clark’s manufacturing plant, reducing its natural gas use by up to 50% and cutting 18,300 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The project is backed by a long-term renewable power purchase agreement with SEFE and is the first of three GHECO projects moving into execution, supporting the UK’s hydrogen economy and industrial decarbonization goals. This milestone highlights Plug Power’s expanding role in Europe’s green hydrogen market and advances the UK’s low-carbon energy ambitions.
