Across Protocol suffered a loss of less than $4 million after an attacker fabricated $41.7 million in fake Solana deposit events using 1,627 single-use wallets. The attack targeted 18 chains, but Risk Labs' relayer paid out only $4.5 million on 581 fraudulent requests before the service was suspended. The breach was caused by a bug in the off-chain relayer software, not the on-chain smart contracts, so no user funds were lost and all legitimate transfers were completed or refunded. Across quickly fixed the issue by switching Solana transfers to Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol and plans to monitor attacker-linked funds while maintaining the new routing method.
