Polkadot is set to implement a major staking upgrade requiring validators to hold a minimum self-stake of 10,000 DOT to enhance network security. The update, expected by May 31, will make nominators unslashable and reduce the unbonding period from 28 days to 24-48 hours, improving user access to funds. Additionally, a new validator reward system will launch by mid-June, with rewards tied to self-stake and stablecoins covering operational costs, phasing out commissions. These changes aim to lower risks and withdrawal times, encouraging more participation in staking.
