Family Dollar has closed about 350 stores across the U.S. in the past 10 months as part of DollarTree's plan to shutter nearly 1,000 underperforming locations. The closures, averaging one per day since July 2025, reflect challenges from inflation and reduced government aid impacting lower-income shoppers. California lost three stores in the latest wave, with Texas, Ohio, and Georgia seeing the most closures. Despite downsizing, Family Dollar aims to rebound by focusing on smaller stores in dense neighborhoods and still operates over 7,000 outlets nationwide.
