The Pentagon has informed Japan that delivery of 400 Tomahawk cruise missiles, ordered in 2024 under a $2.35 billion deal, will face delays of up to two years. This is due to the US military prioritizing replenishment of missile stockpiles heavily used during recent operations against Iran. Originally, Japan expected two shipments of 200 missiles each by April 2028, but the delay may extend this timeline. As a result, Japan may accelerate development of domestic missile alternatives to maintain its defense capabilities against China.
