Potomac Edison, a FirstEnergy subsidiary, introduced a new residential time-of-use electricity rate in Maryland starting April 20, 2026. This rate offers lower prices during off-peak hours such as mornings, late evenings, and weekends, encouraging customers to shift electricity use away from peak weekday hours to save money. On-peak hours are weekdays from 4-9 p.m. (daylight saving) or 3-8 p.m. (standard time), with off-peak rates about 44% cheaper. Customers can enroll at no cost, and a new meter will track their on-peak and off-peak usage, potentially lowering their monthly bills by adjusting appliance use timing.
