Optimism Foundation announced it will re-evaluate its OP token buyback program after the initial 12-month period, without committing to continuation. Monthly buybacks have dropped sharply, from 6.95 million OP tokens in March to just 926,000 in April, reflecting revenue impacts including the departure of Coinbase’s Base network. About 216 million OP tokens are still scheduled to enter the market before April 2027, while buybacks have so far absorbed only 4.4% of this supply. The Foundation also paused its Retro Funding grants program and remains cautious about future commitments amid ongoing financial uncertainties.
