Oklo CEO Jacob DeWitte emphasized that nuclear energy is crucial for powering advanced space exploration missions beyond low Earth orbit, including lunar bases and deep-space probes. The company is developing compact nuclear reactors and related infrastructure, aiming for a 2028 timeline to support NASA and Department of Defense goals for lunar surface reactors. Additionally, Oklo plans to use its Aurora reactors to power hyperscale data centers by the early 2030s, driven by increasing AI power demands. This highlights nuclear power's role in both space and terrestrial applications where dense, reliable energy is needed.
