Novartis announced that Vanrafia (atrasentan) significantly slowed kidney function decline by approximately 34% compared to placebo over 2.5 years in adults with IgA nephropathy, based on Phase III ALIGN study results published in The Lancet. The drug also reduced proteinuria by over 38% at 9 months, with sustained benefits through treatment end. Patients on background SGLT2 inhibitors also showed consistent kidney function preservation. Vanrafia, already approved in the U.S. and China for proteinuria reduction in IgAN, is positioned as a foundational therapy to address this progressive kidney disease, with Novartis planning submissions for traditional approval in 2026.
