The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) sued the New York Times for allegedly passing over a qualified white male candidate for a top editorial position in favor of a less-qualified candidate to meet diversity goals. The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court, claims the Times violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by discriminating based on race or sex. This case reflects the EEOC's alignment with President Trump's policies against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. The Times has not yet responded to the allegations.
