An attacker spent about $1,800 to acquire 40 million MFAM tokens and quickly pushed a malicious governance proposal on Moonwell's Moonriver platform. The proposal aimed to transfer control of seven lending markets and key contracts to an attacker-controlled contract, risking $1.08 million in user funds. Despite reaching quorum fast, most votes now oppose the proposal, and Moonwell's emergency multisig mechanism, the "Break Glass Guardian," can override the attack before execution. The incident highlights vulnerabilities in token-based governance when token prices are low and voter turnout is thin, allowing cheap hostile takeovers.
