The National Advertising Review Board (NARB) has referred Merck Animal Health to the FTC and FDA for not complying with recommendations to stop or modify its claims that Bravecto Quantum provides a full year of flea and tick protection in one dose. The panel found these claims misleading because while the product protects against multiple tick species for 12 months, protection against the lone star tick lasts only eight months. Merck agreed to add disclosures about the eight-month dosing for lone star ticks but refused to change the main annual dosing claim, leading to the referral for possible enforcement action. This case highlights the importance of clear and accurate advertising in animal health products.
