Matson has started hull assembly on the second of three new LNG-powered Aloha Class containerships and commenced construction on the third at Hanwha Philly Shipyard. These vessels, part of a $1 billion investment, will replace older ships in Matson's Hawaii and China-Long Beach Express services. The new ships, with a capacity of 3,600 TEU and speeds over 23 knots, are designed for fast, efficient, and environmentally friendly operations. Matson expects to receive the first vessel in early 2027, with the others arriving later that year and in 2028.
