ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, is in talks to acquire AI chips from Chinese suppliers Iluvatar CoreX and Baidu, aiming to expand its AI capabilities for its Doubao chatbot. This move comes as Nvidia faces export restrictions and growing competition from domestic Chinese chipmakers, who now hold a significant share of China's AI accelerator market. ByteDance's potential deal with Iluvatar CoreX would make it the company's third major domestic GPU supplier, alongside Huawei and Cambricon. Nvidia is also adapting by marketing a new AI data-center CPU in China, but has largely conceded the Chinese market due to U.S. export controls.
