Litecoin experienced a 13-block chain reorganization after attackers exploited a zero-day vulnerability in its MimbleWimble Extension Block (MWEB) privacy layer. This bug allowed older mining nodes to accept invalid transactions, creating a fork that lasted over three hours. During this period, attackers tried double-spending against cross-chain swap protocols, causing potential losses estimated around $600,000. The Litecoin Foundation has since patched the bug, and valid transactions remain unaffected, but trading venues are advised to review their Litecoin balances carefully.
