Hydro One Networks has filed applications with the Ontario Energy Board to build two major 500-kV transmission lines: the Northeast Power Line and the Longwood to Lakeshore Transmission Line. These projects, costing approximately $3 billion combined, aim to enhance electricity transfer capacity and support local industries, agriculture, and manufacturing in Ontario. The Northeast Power Line will increase transfer capability by about 900 MW and is expected to be completed by 2029, while the Longwood to Lakeshore line will add around 550 MW, with completion targeted for 2030. The projects include opportunities for nearby First Nations to invest in a 50% equity stake, promoting collaboration and economic growth in the region.
