Eli Lilly's Foundayo (orforglipron), an oral GLP-1 receptor agonist, demonstrated superior efficacy in three Phase 3 ACHIEVE trials for type 2 diabetes, outperforming oral semaglutide and other comparators in reducing A1C and body weight. In the head-to-head ACHIEVE-3 trial, Foundayo showed 57.1% greater A1C reduction and 73.6% greater weight loss than oral semaglutide at the highest doses. Foundayo also achieved significant improvements in blood sugar control and weight loss in ACHIEVE-2 and ACHIEVE-5 trials compared to dapagliflozin and placebo, respectively. Lilly plans to submit Foundayo for FDA approval for type 2 diabetes treatment by the end of Q2 2026, potentially offering a convenient oral option without food or water restrictions for patients.
