In the Phase 3 ACHIEVE-4 trial, Foundayo (orforglipron) demonstrated non-inferiority to insulin glargine in reducing major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity. Foundayo reduced the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events by 16% and all-cause death by 57% compared to insulin glargine, while also improving blood sugar control and body weight over 52 weeks. The drug was generally well tolerated, with common side effects including nausea and gastrointestinal symptoms. Eli Lilly plans to submit Foundayo for FDA approval for type 2 diabetes treatment by the end of Q2 2026, potentially offering a convenient once-daily oral option with cardiovascular safety benefits.
