General Motors is increasing production of its heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups at its Flint Assembly plant in Michigan, adding a sixth workday starting in June to meet strong consumer demand. This move comes despite rising fuel prices driven by geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions in the Middle East. GM's strategy also aims to boost domestic production to avoid tariffs on imported vehicles. Despite higher gas prices, consumers have not yet shifted away from pickups and SUVs, as sustained high fuel costs typically influence buying decisions only after several months.
