General Motors announced a software update enabling some electric vehicle owners to send power back to the electric grid, expanding their vehicle-to-home energy system. This allows EV owners to sell electricity to utility providers during peak demand, with GM sharing in the proceeds. Over 250,000 GM EVs in the U.S. already have this capability, which can power 120,000 homes for a week. GM is testing this technology with utility companies and aims to have over 52,000 EVs participating in grid-balancing by 2030, helping to stabilize the grid amid rising energy demands and extreme weather events.
