Gilead Sciences announced it will acquire Ouro Medicines, a biotech firm developing T cell engager therapies for autoimmune diseases, for $1.675 billion upfront plus up to $500 million in milestones. The acquisition adds OM336, a clinical-stage therapy targeting BCMA, to Gilead's inflammation portfolio. OM336 has shown promising results in early trials for severe antibody-mediated conditions like autoimmune hemolytic anemia and immune thrombocytopenia, with FDA Fast Track and Orphan Drug designations. Registrational studies are planned for 2027, and Gilead is also discussing a collaboration with Galapagos to co-develop OM336, with Gilead retaining global commercialization rights except in Greater China.
