Francisco Partners to buy Canadian payments firm Moneris for $1.4B from BMO and RBC

Francisco Partners has agreed to acquire Moneris, a Canadian payments and commerce solutions provider jointly owned by BMO and RBC, for 2 billion Canadian dollars (about $1.4 billion). The deal is expected to close by the end of Q1 of BMO and RBC’s fiscal year 2027, pending regulatory approvals. Moneris will continue to receive customer referrals exclusively from BMO and RBC under long-term agreements. The acquisition aims to support Moneris' growth and innovation in the digital payments market, with new leadership including Jeff Sloan as chairman.
