FIFA has partnered with Avalanche blockchain and Modex to launch a new ticketing system for the 2026 World Cup that combats scalping, bots, and fraud. The system uses two digital tokens: Right-to-Buy (RTB) for early ticket purchase priority and Right-to-Ticket (RTT) for converting RTBs into actual tickets. Over 100,000 RTBs have been distributed, with secondary trading exceeding $25 million. This blockchain approach helps FIFA control ticket resale markets, gain valuable fan data, and improve fan engagement without exposing users to blockchain complexities. The success of this system could set a precedent for future sports events.
