Ethena plans to diversify its USDe stablecoin reserve assets into non-crypto options like commodities, equities, and institutional lending to improve falling yields and poor market performance. The move comes after USDe's yield collapsed from highs of 10-22% in late 2024 to just 3.54% in April 2026, matching risk-free T-Bill rates and causing a 2.5x drop in USDe supply from $14.8 billion to $5.8 billion. Founder Gary Young says this diversification aims to reduce reliance on volatile crypto cycles and strengthen USDe's resilience. While some experts support the strategy, others still view USDe as risky.
