Deep Isolation Nuclear has been awarded up to $40 million by the U.S. Department of Energy’s ARPA-E SCALEUP Ready program to support the commercial deployment of its Universal Canister System (UCS) for nuclear waste management. The funding will enable full-scale field testing and regulatory validation of deep borehole disposal technology through a nonradioactive pilot project in Cameron, Texas. The project involves key partners like Westinghouse, Halliburton, and NAC International, aiming to create a permanent, safe, and efficient solution for managing spent nuclear fuel and high-level waste. This milestone supports U.S. priorities for nuclear waste solutions and could transform global nuclear waste management practices.
