ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, aims to complete the design of its own central processing unit (CPU) by early 2027, with plans for mass production and deployment in the second half of that year. The move supports ByteDance's expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure and seeks greater control over its core computing hardware. An early version of the CPU has been used internally since late 2025. To aid development and secure manufacturing capacity, ByteDance is collaborating with US chipmaker Qualcomm. Analysts note this effort is driven by rising demand for computing power and increasing costs, though chip supply challenges remain.
