Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin experienced a sandwich attack during a small swap of DigitalBits (XDB) for Ether (ETH) on April 30. The attack was executed by the notorious MEV bot jaredfromsubway.eth, which used about $1.14 million in wrapped Ether to manipulate the trade price around Buterin's transaction. Although the loss to Buterin was minimal, the incident underscores ongoing concerns about MEV (Miner Extractable Value) and front-running in Ethereum transactions. This event renews focus on Ethereum's plans to implement encrypted mempools by 2026 to better protect users from such attacks.
