Boston Scientific has invested $1.5 billion to acquire approximately 34% equity in MiRus LLC, a company developing innovative cardiovascular implants including the SIEGEL Balloon Expandable Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) system. This investment grants Boston Scientific an exclusive option to fully acquire the MiRus TAVR system upon meeting certain milestones and additional payments. The SIEGEL valve, made from a proprietary nickel-free rhenium alloy, offers a smaller delivery system and precise placement, potentially improving treatment for aortic stenosis patients. MiRus is currently conducting a pivotal clinical trial to evaluate the valve's safety and effectiveness in over 1,000 patients, with early results showing promise. Boston Scientific's full acquisition option could cost an additional $3 billion, aiming to expand its cardiovascular device portfolio with this advanced technology.
