Bionano Genomics published a study showing optical genome mapping (OGM) identified genomic abnormalities in 97.8% of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) cases, nearly doubling the 55% detection rate of traditional cytogenetic analysis. The study, involving 91 cases, also revealed OGM provided additional genomic insights in 70% of cases and detected both known and novel gene fusions, offering a more comprehensive understanding of this aggressive blood cancer. OGM's single workflow can streamline diagnosis and research by capturing complex genetic changes that conventional methods often miss, potentially improving classification and treatment development for T-ALL.
