American musician Garrett Dutton, known as G. Love, lost $420,000 in Bitcoin after downloading a fraudulent app on Apple’s App Store that mimicked the Ledger Live manager. The app bypassed Apple's security and tricked him into revealing his private recovery phrase, allowing thieves to steal 5.9 BTC, which was quickly moved to KuCoin exchange addresses. This incident highlights the increasing risks of scams on major app stores and the growing problem of crypto theft, with losses in the U.S. reaching $11 billion in 2025. Similar phishing attacks have targeted hardware wallet users through fake apps and physical mail, exploiting leaked personal data to steal crypto assets.
