New modeling from Boehringer Ingelheim's FIBRONEER™ Phase III trials suggests that nerandomilast, an oral PDE4B inhibitor, could significantly extend median survival in adults with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF). The model predicts up to a 5.4-year survival increase in IPF and 3.3 years in PPF compared to no therapy, with additional benefits when combined with standard treatment. These findings, presented at ATS and EULAR 2026, highlight nerandomilast's potential to improve long-term outcomes by slowing lung function decline and reducing mortality risk. Further real-world data and trial extensions will clarify its long-term impact.
