Glassnode reports that about 6.04 million BTC, or 30.2% of all Bitcoin, have public keys visible on the blockchain, making them vulnerable to potential quantum computing attacks if such technology advances enough to break Bitcoin's cryptography. The remaining 69.8% of Bitcoin supply has no public key exposure and is currently safer. The risk is split between older Bitcoin addresses with inherent public key exposure and coins exposed through normal transaction use, including 1.63 million BTC held by exchanges. While no current quantum computer can break Bitcoin's encryption, the threat is long-term, urging holders to avoid address reuse and move funds to newer, safer address types. Exchanges could reduce risk by improving key management, and the Bitcoin community is considering quantum-resistant upgrades, though implementation would require broad consensus.
